Meeting Summary:

Our panel of capital providers and entrepreneurs will talk about the types of investment deals being done in today's weakened investment and business climates, and how and why some funded companies are doing well. They will guide the audience who seeks to raise money, to understand what is important to investors now and appeal to them on that basis. Our panelists will address issues and provide insight about investor perspectives, talk about due diligence, how to position your company to be attractive, and identify critical milestones to gain entrée to the capital market providers and follow-on capital. They will also identify where investments are being made and why, and share their opinions on what the capital markets may look like in the next year.

Gail Goodman, Chief Executive Officer, Roving Software.

Constant Contact® is available through channel partners of office supply retailers, small business portals, web affiliates and website development software and services companies. Roving raised $22M over 4 years, funded by Morgan Stanley Venture Partners, Commonwealth Capital Ventures, Longworth Venture Partners, Hudson Ventures and VeriSign, Inc.

Gail is a seasoned software executive with senior management, marketing, product management, business development and management consulting experience with Roving Software, Open Market, Progress Software, Dun & Bradstreet Software, and Bain & Co. Under Gail’s leadership, Roving brought Constant Contact® to market, now more than 100,000 small and medium businesses. She develops and tracks best practices in email marketing, focused specifically on permission-based email and stopping spam. Gail holds a BA from The University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts Software and Internet Council and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

Jane Swift, Special General Partner, DHM Arcadia Partners and former Governor of Massachusetts

Arcadia Partners is the leading venture capital firm focused exclusively on the $129+ billion for-profit education and training industry. Arcadia makes investments primarily in privately-held companies with enterprise values ranging from $5 million to $75 million, regardless of the stage of development. Jane Swift served as the Governor of Massachusetts from April 2001 until January 2003. As the Chief Executive of the nation’s thirteenth largest state, she was responsible for overseeing a $23 billion annual operating budget, and for setting strategic direction for 13 cabinet agencies and divisions. As Governor and previously as the Lieutenant Governor (1999 – 2001) Swift focused on improving the state’s education system. She directed a review of early education programs and services and spearheaded improvements to the state’s adult education and training programs. Swift successfully implemented many critical but controversial components of the Massachusetts Education Reform Act that, that she helped write as a state senator in 1993. Combining statewide curriculum frameworks with rigorous standards and a superior assessment system, the Massachusetts law has been recognized as one of the most successful reform acts in the country.

Prior to becoming Lieutenant Governor, Swift held two high-level state appointments, and between 1991-1997, she was elected to serve three terms in the Massachusetts Senate.

In addition to her work at Arcadia, Swift speaks professionally on women’s leadership, education improvement and work-family integration. She recently completed a fellowship at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. She received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in American Studies from Trinity College and has received six honorary doctorates, numerous awards and recognitions and achieved several notable firsts: Massachusetts’ first female Governor, and the first U.S. Governor to give birth while in office.

Lucy McQuilken, President, Chaoticom, a leading provider of platforms and services for the mobile data market.

Chaoticom is applying breakthrough technology in non-linear mathematics to vastly improve the quality, scalability, compression, and security of voice, music, images and video. Their multimedia service delivery platform enables revenue-enhancing applications for wireless, cable, and DSL network operators. Applications include audio-on-demand, multimedia messaging (MMS), photo-sharing, and video-on-demand. Their mobile music solution includes hosting, aggregation, web presence, editorial, integrated DRM and licensed music content for mobile operators. Chaoticom’s scalable encoding format lowers costs and complexity for ASPs, content aggregators, and device manufacturers. Their music player runs on a wide range of mobile phones and devices. It enables users to search a database of top hits and securely stream or download high quality music to a their mobile phone using standard Internet protocols over mobile networks. Chaoticom’s investors include Charles River Ventures, Kodiak Venture Partners, eCoast Angels and others.

Lucy is part of Chaoticom's founding team. She joined from Agilent Technologies where she served as a major account manager in the Communication Solutions Group. Her account responsibilities at Agilent included Lucent, Cisco and Nortel Networks. Prior to the formation of Agilent, Lucy served as product manager and engineering manager for the Hewlett Packard Imaging Systems Division. Her other engineering experience includes ASIC development at Analog Devices and product engineering at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). She holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University and an MBA from Clark University.

Larry has held profit & loss management positions at Textron (Avco), Arthur D. Little, John Brown Group, and Foster-Miller where he helped effect their business turn-around. He received a BS in Engineering and an MBA with high distinction in International Marketing and Finance concentration from Northeastern University. He has held a Top Secret clearance.
