Corporate venture capital represents a huge source of early
stage and growth capital for technology rich and innovative small companies.
Corporate venture capital sources also can provide key customer relationships,
validation and credibility within the industry, a strategic partnership for
marketing, sales and manufacturing, acquisition synergy and preference, and
excellent positioning for later financings. Our speakers tonight are all from
the corporate venture capital community. They will talk about their
organizations investment perspectives and the growing importance of this
funding pathway for early stage companies

Harald
Kirchner, Investment Partner, Siemens Venture Capital (SVC) is the
corporate venture organization for all Siemens' businesses worldwide. SVC plays
a key role in the Siemens global network of innovation. The goal is to identify
and fund investments in emerging and innovative technologies that will enhance
the core business scope of Siemens. The investment focus is on technology
growth areas of; optical networking, mobile communications, automation software
and e-business healthcare solutions within the Siemens business segments such
as Information and Communication, Automation and Control, Medical Solutions and
Power. SVC currently has investments in more than 70 start-up companies and 25
venture capital funds mainly in the U.S., Europe and Israel. SVC is located in
Germany (Munich) and in the U.S. (Santa Clara, CA and Boston,
MA).
Harald has six years of experience in venture capital. Prior to
SVC, Harald was assistant head of a research group for knowledge based systems,
responsible for acquisition, planning and management of applied research
projects for small and medium sized enterprises. He was also the founder of TIM
- Team for Innovation and Management, an innovation consulting and accelaration
company (sold). Harald got a Dr.-Ing. (PhD) and Diploma Degree in computer
science, both with highest distinction, from the University Erlangen-Nuremberg,
Germany. |

Andrew T.
Ramer, Manager Motorola Ventures, actively invests in early stage
companies with high growth potential in areas of strategic value to Motorola's
current and future businesses. Wireless LAN, broadband, smartcard, telematics,
and next generation silicon applications are a few of the technologies within
their investment scope. Typical investments are between $1M to $10M. Operations
in Boston, Chicago, and Palo Alto work closely between Motorola's internal
business groups and portfolio companies to ensure a nurtured and successful
partnership. Portfolio companies includes Aura Communications, Sportvision,
Nearlife, Perceptual Robotics, Watchpoint Media, Plumb Design, Identix,
Centerpost, Fitsense, Foresight, and Traq-Wireless.
Andrew actively
reviews investment opportunities strategic to Motorola's core and emerging
businesses including communications and broadband solutions. Prior to MV,
Andrew was with the Boston law firm of Roche, Carens, and DeGiacomo focusing on
partnerships, contracts and closely held corporations. Previously, he was an
Account Executive with Dean Witter Reynolds developing creative investment
portfolios for individual and corporate clients. Andrew received his
undergraduate degree from University of Massachusetts and graduated cum laude
from New England School of Law in Boston. |

Elliot
Swan, Intel's strategic investment program is one of the largest
worldwide corporate venture programs investing in the technology segment. They
invest with strategic intent, aiming to create and expand new markets for
Intel's products with focus on internet, computing and communications to grow
the total internet infrastructure. Elliot Swan has been a Director with Intel
Capital since 1996. He moved to Boston in 1999 to initiate a field-based equity
investment program designed to strengthen Intel's relationships with investors
and entrepreneurs in key high tech regions in North America and to complement
the sector-based investment initiatives of Intel Capital. Elliot's personal
investments have principally been in enterprise software and internet
infrastructure. In the past four years, Elliot and his teams have invested over
$150M in several dozen technology start-ups. Elliot was Intel Capital's
business development lead on its $780M acquisition of Dialogic Corporation, a
Parsippany, NJ telecommunications building block supplier and Corollary Inc.,
an Irvine, CA developer of server chipsets.
Formerly a software engineer
at several high technology start-ups, Elliot has been a marketing executive
with Intel Corporation since 1984 including eight years with Intel's Scalable
Systems Division where he last served as Director of Marketing. Elliot has a BS
in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University and an
MBA from the University of Chicago. |

Larry Grumer,
Chairman, Boston Entrepreneurs' Network & Founder & Managing Director,

research and commercial product concepts to manufacturing, and market
realities. Mr. Grumer has held profit & loss management positions a Textron
(Avco), Arthur D. Little, John Brown Group, and Foster-Miller where he helped
effect their business turn-around. He received a BS in Engineering and MBA with
high distinction in International Marketing and Finance concentration from
Northeastern University. He has held a Top Secret clearance. |
