The first meeting of the 2000-2001
season of the Entrepreneurs' Network provides two entrepreneurial success
stories. Similar as they both satisfied market needs within a large growing
market, but contrasting as one has gone through 50 years of growth, change, and
acquisition to reposition itself again as a technological leader and a
component of the S&P 500 Index, whereas the other company is less than
three years old, raised over $200 million of venture capital, gone public and
now has a market value of $9.4 billion! |

| Speakers' Profiles: |
| Gregory L. Summe will talk about
EG&G, Inc.'s early days straight out of MIT, its successful years as a
government contractor, its commercial successes, and it's reinvigorated growth
through acquisition, divestiture out of government services, and its
acquisition and merger with PerkinElmer, Inc. Hired in 1998, Mr. Summe oversaw
a frenzy of strategic acquisitions and restructuring of EG&G's and
PerkinElmer's business units as part of the company's transformation to a
focused $1.7 billion high technology enterprise operating in four businesses -
Life Sciences, Optoelectronics, Instruments, and Fluid Sciences. As a result,
its stock hit a new high in March 2000. The Company has operations in over 100
countries, and is a component of the S&P 500 Index. The acquisitions and
venturing with companies such as; Lumen Technology, Telecom SBE, Bragg
Photonics, Sciex, Vivid Technologies, Berthold GmbH, Wallac Group, NEN Life
Sciences become especially illustrative for entrepreneurs who may want to see
their companies heading toward similar acquisitions. |

| Peter Bell will talk about the
phenomenal success of his 2+ year old company. StorageNetworks was formed in
1998. They raised over $200 million of venture capital. They went public this
summer and have a market capitalization of $9.4 billion. They are the first
company to solely focus on providing data storage as a service. They help
fast-growing organizations quickly and easily access virtually unlimited data
storage capacity and capabilities, on-demand. Their Global Data Storage Network
allows customers to connect their computer systems, or simply "plug in", to
store and access their data much the same way they obtain everyday utility
services such as electricity or telephone service. Peter was with EMC
Corporation when they were only a $66 million company. He opened up several new
businesses and markets helping grow EMC into the leading supplier of enterprise
storage systems. These relationships continued when he formed StorageNetworks.
An EMC founder was one of his early investors and his early growth strategy
relied on close working relationships with EMC sales groups and
customers. |
