Our September meeting will enable you to successfully identify the most productive networking opportunities. Our panel will discuss what a CEO values in networking. Our speakers will show you how to use networking to market your products and services, choose from entrepreneurs’ networking meetings where contributors congregate and use social networking to build excitement and support. Writing newsletter contributions or attending technical conferences and trade shows are also alternatives with specific advantages. You will also enjoy an evening networking with others who, like you, are trying to build a new and prosperous economy.

Beth has been Founder and CEO of several successful startups, most notably EXOS, Inc., which was venture capital backed and sold to Microsoft in 1996.  Since then she has been involved in twelve (12) start-ups in a variety of fields as a founder, investor, or advisor.  She has raised equity numerous times and has also done angel investments herself.  Several of these ventures have been acquired by public companies.  Part-time between then and now, Beth has worked as a consultant providing patent strategy, litigation support and other strategic technology related consulting services. Beth is an acknowledged expert in the hand-device interface space and has been an expert for several of the major players in the industry in support of prior patents litigations. That knowledge and the clear problems in using a cell phone keypad for anything but number entry led her to invention, filing of a patent application, and the founding of Zeemote. Beth has SB and SM in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and a PhD in Biomechanics from the Imperial College, London, where she was a Marshall Scholar.  She has more than a dozen patents to her name and numerous publications and public speaking engagements.  She has served on the faculty of MIT in the department of Mechanical Engineering.  Dr. Marcus has been member of the Board of the MIT Enterprise Forum and the MIT Corporation Visiting Committee in Mechanical Engineering.  She is also a current member of the Council for the Arts at MIT.

Barbara manages BB Marketing Plus and heads up all projects. BB Marketing Plus clients include high- tech, health care, professional services, and financial services organizations ranging in size from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups. As Principal, BB Marketing Plus, Barbara has worked with more than 50 companies to build their businesses.  Key to her success, and theirs, has been finding the right partners and resources to accelerate growth.Barbara earned her marketing stripes at EMC, Motorola, and GE.  Before that, she co-founded a software development firm.
 
Barbara graduated from The Wharton School with an MBA in Management Information and Control and has completed post-graduate courses at Northeastern's State-of-the-Art Engineering program and the Harvard School of Public Health.   She speaks and writes articles on effective marketing strategies. The Wall Street Journal, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Mass Device have quoted Barbara in articles about social media marketing.  Barbara’s articles have appeared in The Boston Business Journal, Mass High-Tech, Effective Clinical Practices, PM360, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, Women's Business, RainToday, and MarketingProfs.


Dr. Kalyan Kalwa, MD., CoFounder, Cultivated Solutions, CEO, BioID Management,  http://www.linkedin.com/in/kalyankalwa

Dr. Kalwa is a cofounder of Cultivated Solutions, an IT services operation. In less than one weeks time, by using his networking skills, he assembled a fifteen person team. Each team member contributes needed business or technical expertise. He will share his use of networking and the venues that he explored with the audience. Dr. Kalwa is also the CEO of BioID Management.  BioID captures bio-metric data such as finger prints, facial features, iris scans and voice recognition data. BioID then uses this information with mobile appliances to validate the identity individuals in emerging markets so that they can perform secure banking transactions.In his previous experience, he worked on innovative medical devices at MIT and did IT work for TJX, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Putnam Investments.

Mike has founded and built companies, set up manufacturing operations, formed strategic partnerships, set up global joint ventures, raised over $40M for startups which he co-founded, including two based in China, and commercialized technologies. Mike advises startups in high tech, clean tech, software, and manufacturing. One of his startups provides mobile banking services in China.  A cell biology company which he cofounded, also in China, has just been sold. Tonbu which developed web-based collaborative environments for the electronics industry grew to 142 employees. Mike spent 16 years with IBM designing robots and automation, marketing and selling IBM products to manufacturing companies, setting up global operations and supply chains, and founding an IBM consulting organization for manufacturing clients which he grew into a $20M business.   Mike also lived in China from 1986-1987 while consulting to companies owned by the Machine Building Ministry and taught graduate courses at Hunan University.

Mike earned his BS in Electrical Engineering and MS in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University and his MBA from Union College.  He is past Chair of the IEEE Boston Entrepreneurs’ Network, has served on the board of APICS Boston, and was a member of the planning committee of the MIT Enterprise Forum for over 10 years. Mike is a frequent speaker at conferences on Global Entrepreneurship, Supply Chains, Manufacturing, and China business.
